Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Sunday that the education provided in the institutes should be free from politics and it should not be based on the political ideology followed by the founders of these institutes, whatever or the party to which they belong. Stating that great literature can do the work of nation-building, he said writers, historians and journalists play a key role in bringing about a positive change in people’s mindset.

The Minister of Road Transport and Highways was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 95th three-day Indian Marathi Literary Gathering (Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan) in Udgir, Latur district, Maharashtra.

“Literature is very important in politics, but politics should not be played on the platform of literature. Great literature can do the work of nation building and development. But the problem these days is that “There are good and bad things in every field. Many educational institutes are owned by politicians, but the education provided by these centers should not be based on the ideology followed by their founders,” said he declared.

“Regardless of the political party to which the founder of an educational institute belongs, the education provided in his institutes must be free from politics,” Gadkari added.

Giving an example of “Taare Zameen Par”, a Hindi film starring Aamir Khan, saying that the film teaches us how an ideal teacher should be.

If we want to end the vices in society, we have to change the mentality of people and in this writers, historians and journalists have an important role to play, he added.

“If we want to be the first country in the world, we have to study literature, poetry, music and history. The dream will come true only after that. There is a need for socio-economic reforms in the country A man is superior by his quality and not by his caste,” Gadkari said.

For society to prosper, we must walk the path of development. The upliftment of the poor and the development of the villages should take place. There is a need to increase the growth rate of agriculture and per capita income. Farmers in the country should not only be providers of food, but should also become providers of energy, the minister added.

Speaking on the occasion, Latur Guardian Minister Amit Deshmukh said: “Border issues between India and China, also in Assam and other areas, are being resolved, so that the Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue can also be resolved through talks. The Center as well as the governments of Karnataka and Maharashtra should work together to find a way out.” Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe said the issue of borders between Belgaum and Karwar had been pending for many years.
