Babul responds to Naseeruddin’s comments on ‘changing political ideology’

Kolkata, April 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) The war of words between Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah and singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo, who is the Trinamool Congress candidate for the upcoming Ballygunge Assembly poll in Kolkata, is now open.

On Monday, Shah posted a video message asking for support for his niece, Saira Shah Halim, who is the CPI(M) candidate for the Ballygunge indirect vote. In the video message, without naming Babul Supriyo, Shah referred to Supriyo’s move from the BJP to the Trinamool Congress last year.

“I am not a member of any political party. I am looking for votes individually. Will you elect someone who frequently changes political ideologies or someone who stands with the people? So in the Ballygunge polls I am looking support for Saira Shah Halim,” Naseeruddin Shah said in the video message.

Reacting to the video posted by Shah, Supriyo in a Twitter post late Monday night raised doubts whether Shah should post this video post due to pressure from CPI(M).

“We all love & respect #NaseerUddinShah. An absolute legend and now playing a real life uncle. Awww! but the video is so adorable,” Supriyo tweeted.

Supriyo, a two-time BJP Lok Sabha member from Asansol constituency in West Burdwan district of West Bengal, also became a minister in the Union government led by Narendra Modi. However, soon after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls, he joined the Trinamool Congress and also resigned as the Member of Parliament for Asansol.

The Trinamool Congress this time nominated him as the party’s candidate for the Ballygunge Assembly by-elections. The BJP has hired former journalist Keya Ghosh. The by-election for the seat of Ballygunge was necessitated by the death of Trinamool Congress legislator and state panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee on November 4, 2021.
